Police Promotional Examination Security, Ethics, and Technology Practices

Police promotional examination materials require controlled handling throughout development, review, administration, scoring, retention, and final disposition. Before confidential materials are accepted, the client agreement will identify authorized personnel, access controls, approved technology, transfer procedures, retention requirements, incident reporting responsibilities, and return or destruction instructions.

Secure Handling — Defined Per Engagement

Secure handling procedures, access controls, storage requirements, and retention rules will be defined in each client agreement before confidential agency materials are accepted. This public website does not accept confidential examination materials.

Documented · per project

Chain of Custody

Available depending on the agreed scope: examination copies are tracked from production through administration and return, documented per client agreement.

NDA · before access

AI · bounded, disclosed

Technology & AI Use

Confidential or restricted agency information is not entered into public AI systems. When authorized and appropriately protected, technology may support preliminary drafting, formatting, comparison, and quality checks. Qualified human reviewers verify the approved source, correct answer, citation, distractors, rank relevance, and final inclusion of every scored item.

Ethics & Coaching Firewall

We do not provide coaching or preparation services to candidates participating in any examination or promotional process that we develop, administer, score, review, or support.

Conflict Screening

Personnel involved in developing an examination are expected to complete a written conflict disclosure before accessing project material, as defined in each engagement.

Independent Creation

Examination content is developed from agency-approved source materials, with documentation of independent creation retained per engagement.

What We Don't Claim

We do not represent examinations as "challenge-proof," "bias-free," legally defensible, or legally guaranteed. We do not claim attorney review or psychometric validation unless a qualified professional actually participates and documents it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from agency decision makers.

How long does a police promotional examination take to develop?

Most custom examinations require approximately six to ten weeks after the complete approved source list and source materials are received. The schedule depends on item count, source volume, SME availability, review requirements, agency approval time, and administration date. The final project schedule is established in the client agreement.

Do you provide coaching to individual promotional candidates?

Candidate coaching may be offered through a separately managed service and only after a conflict screening. We do not coach a candidate participating in any examination or promotional process that we develop, administer, score, review, or support. Agency client information, examination content, source materials, and answer keys are never used for candidate coaching.

What happens when a candidate challenges an examination item?

Challenge support is available when included in the client agreement. Each properly submitted challenge is reviewed against the approved item, keyed answer, source citation, examination blueprint, and applicable review records. A written determination is provided to the agency within the agreed review period. Any scoring adjustment is applied according to the agency’s approved rules and contractual process.

Is confidential examination content processed through software systems?

Confidential examination content and restricted agency information are not entered into public or consumer AI systems. Approved private software systems may be used when authorized by the client agreement and protected by documented access and data handling controls. Qualified human reviewers (SME) remain responsible for verifying the source, keyed answer, citation, distractors, rank relevance, and final inclusion of every scored item.

How is the examination answer key protected?

Answer key access is limited to personnel authorized under the client agreement. The answer key is maintained separately from candidate materials and is not provided to proctors or agency personnel unless their assigned responsibilities require access.

How are examination materials delivered and tracked?

Delivery and tracking procedures are established for each engagement. Depending on scope, controls may include numbered booklets, documented transfers, sealed packaging, authorized recipient confirmation, return inventories, and written disposition instructions.

How are examinations scored?

Scoring may be completed using an approved electronic scoring system or another method identified in the client agreement. The department receives the reports included in its selected scope, which may include candidate scores, item results, examination statistics, and documented scoring adjustments.

What happens if an approved source changes during development?

The agency must notify us of source changes as soon as possible. The effect on the examination, schedule, and price is evaluated before the revised material is used. No source change is incorporated without documented agency authorization and the understanding of additional financial costs.
